High-fashion jewelry items that traditionally sell well during the holidays are rings, necklaces and pendants and one local jewelry store owner expects that trend will continue.
Chances are, though, most of those pieces won't be bought by men. Carol Weepers of Rosser Reeves Jewelry in Tecumseh says women still far outnumber men when it comes to buying jewelry.
"I wish I could get more men to buy jewelry," she says with a laugh. "We do sell some of it to men, especially at this time of the year, but if we only sold to men we would go broke."
In recent years, though, the number of male customers at Rosser Reeves has increased ever-so-slightly.
"Men are starting to wear jewelry again, and they seem to particularly like wearing ring bands. We do have a lot of bands for men that are made of titanium or gold."
Stainless steel jewelry items that are made in Italy are traditionally big sellers not only during the holidays, but throughout the year.
"When it comes to making jewelry, the Italians are very creative," Weepers continues. "They have huge factories in Italy where they design and make exquisite jewelry items from both stainless steel and gold."
Among the hot made-in-Italy items available at Rosser Reeves are wedding and engagement rings, pendants and earrings.
"The Italians are very innovative in their jewelry-making. They came up with these big gold earrings that are actually hollow," she points out. "They give the impression of being big and heavy earrings, but in fact they are very light."
